the 'Empower Us' project
Supporting parents of children with complex needs or disabilities, by offering a wide range of support services. Helping to cope with the emotional rollercoaster of parenting, as well as the practical implications of having a child with additional needs.
Who is it for?
Supporting those who live in Wirral, Ellesmere Port or Neston, the ‘Empower Us’ Project is for families of children aged 2-11 years old, who have complex needs and/or disabilities.
For those families who would benefit from making connections with likeminded individuals, many of who will have experienced the issues you deal with as a parent every day. Between us we have so much knowledge, lets share it and empower families!
What's it about?
‘Empower Us’ offers a safe space to share our experiences and knowledge, whilst learning from each other.
We offer a wide range of support services including:
In home support
A complex needs co-ordinator can visit you at home and offer: a listening and non-judgemental ear, practical support, tips on how to play and interact with your child, sensory stimulation, company and fun activities.
Walk and Talk sessions
These are offered at a variety of local attractions and parks, allowing you to reintegrate yourself into your local community with confidence.
Access to resources/information events
We offer visual timetables, Makaton signing packs, speech and language programmes, fun-filled activity packs, and much more – all delivered to your door. We also host parent information evenings, covering such topics as: making sense of the senses, reducing meltdowns, and food for thought.
One to one support
Our co-ordinators can share tips and techniques on how to progress your childs’s development, whilst allowing you the opportunity to discuss your feelings and concerns.
Emotional / Practical Support at our coffee mornings
We understand how isolating parenting can be. Having an understanding adult to talk to can turn your day around. We offer emotional support face to face at our monthly coffee mornings or if easier by telephone. Here you can build up peer support with other families in similar situations. There will be topic talks to share tips in areas such as melt downs, and calming strategies. Whatever works for you and your family, we are here to support you.
