Early Years
Koala North West’s Early Years Service aims to support parents with children ages 0-5 years. The early years are an important and special time in a child’s life. Through the support we aim to support parents to build strong relationships with their children, grow in parental confidence, enhance understanding of child development and support whole family wellbeing.
We provide a range of free services from antenatal sessions, infant feeding support, stay and play sessions, baby programmes, early learning workshops, walk and talk sessions for parents and their children to access. We support the whole family and welcome self-referrals.
The early years’ service also offers home visits for expectant parents or parents with young children who may be feeling isolated or require tailored one to one support. We know that reaching out for support can feel overwhelming or difficult. That’s why one of our staff members will always give you a call first to discuss your worries and challenges and for you to find out a little more about the services available for you.
Our support focuses on improving child’s outcomes across the three prime areas:
- Communication and Language
- Physical development
- Personal and Social and Emotional Development
Families supported in most deprived wards
Trained peer support volunteers support our early years staff team to provide peer support to families in groups, the home environment and in the community. They help families feel connected, access local activities, and reduce feelings of isolation. Our early years support is open to all families with children aged 0–5. We work across our local area, with a strong focus on reaching families who may face additional barriers to accessing support.
Over half of the families we support (56%) live in neighbourhoods within the top 20% most deprived areas nationally.
- 82% of parents reported increased confidence in supporting their child’s learning and development.
- 87% of children showed improvements in communication, social or emotional development.
- 85% of families reported reduced isolation
- 90% of families reported reduced stress and anxiety
